Violence Immunity
Violence Immunity
So i was going to do separate sections for each of these little articles. But i decided against it, so i combined it to one page making the theme being like against violence. I didnt know that i was such a peace hippie person untill i read all of these. I wrote these over the entire year of 10th grade. I guess my english teacher knows how much of a hippie i am. But heres my opinions, dont try and argue with them, cause im not an arguing kinda person ill probably curse u out or something
One of the most popular genres of movies today is action. People of all age’s line up at the theatre’s to see the new “Lord of the Rings” movie or the notorious “300”. But little do they know the effect these movies have on them. Modern Day action movies have made us immune to seeing violence.
Special effects in movies nowadays have modernized so much it looks real. Though in the eyes of the movie makers and viewers that may be a good thing, it really isn’t. It can cause people to be used to sight
A perfect example of that is a personal experience I went through. During my history class’s study of the problems in the Middle East, we watched a movie. The movie was documentary about the fighting in Darfur. When the teacher told us that the movies contained graphic scenes, I became worried if I would be able to stand watching them. But as I watched the scene where the film crew walked down a path of decaying bodies, I was overwhelmed with grief. Regrettably my sorrow wasn’t a result of watching the scene, but rather by fact that I wasn’t shaken or even affected by it at all. These real life images had no effect on me because of the action, violence movies I’ve watched.
So people have become unaffected to things like that because action and violent movies have made us see these images as simply special effects. We see it and though it looks real, it makes it seem unreal in our eyes due to the graphic scenes in movies we’ve become susceptible to. While it’s convenient to not be traumatized by the violence out there, it’s just wrong.
Abolish the Death Penalty
Abolish the Death Penalty
"A man was put in jail for running over a family with his car, killing a two year girl. While he was in jail he was diagnosed with leukemia and needed a bone marrow transplant. The state of Georgia has two options: pay for the transplant, or let the man die a long a painful death in jail. So which one should they choose?” A teacher asked his class. The vote was unanimous. The class believed this man deserved to die, considering the pernicious crime he committed. But one student felt otherwise. This student wondered if possibly this man could be sick, and nonetheless thought he doesn’t deserve to die. And he was sick; the teacher informed the class after they all stated their conjectures. Other than leukemia, he had schizophrenia. The point of the matter is, the death penalty is wrong and should be abolished.
The death penalty in itself is an act of hypocrisy. Someone murders a person, and how do we teach that person and everyone in the world that killing is wrong? We go ahead and kill another person. If that isn’t hypocrisy, then what is? So if someone is sentenced to execution for killing, why does the executioner deserve to live and not the killer. With that in mind how does one decide who does deserves to live and who deserves to die.
The illness of a person might not be taken into consideration. With diseases such as schizophrenia, and bipolar, one has no control over themselves. A person could be sentenced to death, when it really wasn’t their fault at all. If the jury, whom decides whether or not the killer should be executed, thought as the class had about the schizophrenic man, he would most likely be reprehended for his crime.
If inhumanity or hypocrisy doesn’t change ones mind, then probably the issue of money will. The legal process of the death penalty is expensive. It cost more to execute someone than to sentence them to life in prison. The money the government pays to take someone’s life, could go to other things such a giving someone a better life.
The reasons above are why the death penalty is wrong. All and all it’s hypocritical, expensive, churlish and above all inhumane. That’s why the death penalty should be abolished once and for all.
